Winix makes some of the most highly-rated and technologically advanced air purifiers on the market today, a trend that is only continued by its new U300 Signature HEPA Air Cleaner. This air cleaner is powerful, high-tech and runs quietly – everything you need in a mid-size room HEPA filter. But that’s not all we like about it. For much more information on the U300 and whether it’s worth your money, please keep reading.
Winix U300 Signature Specifications
The Winix U300 uses 5-Stages of air filtration. The first utilizes a washable, anti-bacterial pre-filter that traps large dirt, dust, debris and hair, and the second stage consists of a “true” High Efficiency Particle Arresting (“HEPA”) filter rated at 99.99% effectiveness, with at least 99.97% effectiveness on particles down to 0.3 microns in size. This level of HEPA filtration is ideal for removing fine, suspended airborne allergens that can easily lodge in airways and the lungs – things like pollen, viruses, bacteria, fungi, dust, soot, etc. Consequently, this filter should please most allergy/asthma sufferers.
In addition to mechanically catching fine particulates in the HEPA media, this filter also inhibits their spread with an anti-microbial “CleanCell” treatment that works to neutralize pathogens caught in the filter and prevent them from growing on the HEPA media. We are beginning to see more models using treated HEPA media and think this is a great idea, especially if high humidity levels are present, which can hasten mold/bacteria growth.
Besides outstanding particulate filtration, the U300 is also excellent at stopping and neutralizing odors. This is where the fourth stage comes in – the Advanced Odor Control (“AOC”) filter. This is a washable, activated carbon media that is designed to absorb cooking/pet smells, fumes, smoke, and other undesirable odors. Winix reports that this filter, composed of coconut shell, is in fact 3x better at absorbing odors than the typical carbon media, which ordinarily must be disposed and continually replaced.
The fifth stage is the PlasmaWave system. This technology works by generating negative and positive ions, which, when they combine with water vapor, form hydroxyl molecules. Hydroxyls are very reactive particles that bind to and immediately break apart and neutralize things like bacteria, viruses, noxious vapors and chemicals, and various other odors, gases and allergens in the air through a process that renders them into harmless water vapor and other innocuous components. This phenomena is similar to the reactive particles and natural air cleansing that occur in the upper atmosphere.
In addition to very sophisticated 5-stage filtration, this model is also equipped with a cutting-edge air quality sensor that lets the unit run on auto-mode. The unit’s sensor constantly monitors the levels of circulating particulates and, based on these levels, adjusts fan speed accordingly to bring them down and keep them there. As a result, you can let the Winix U300 essentially run itself.
Notably, this is a very quiet unit, with a decibel (dB) rating of only 28 dB on low and 52 dB on the “turbo” setting. These are great scores, and mean that this is a great bedroom model, especially if run at the low setting. The U300 has received the Energy Star rating for efficiency and comes with a convenient remote control.
The U300 has Clean Air Deliver Rates (“CDRs”) of 197, 197 and 214 for dust, smoke and pollen, respectively. It is Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (“AHAM”) rated for rooms up to 300 square feet in size.
Each purchase comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
Winix U300 Signature HEPA Air Cleaner Reviews

Concluding Thoughts & Opinions
The Winix U300 makes an outstanding HEPA air cleaner for mid-sized rooms. It has cutting-edge 5-stage filtration with superior odor control and a washable carbon filter that is 3x more effective than standard media. In addition, it incorporates anti-microbial treatment and Winix’s very popular PlasmaWave technology that further complements the filter’s top-notch particulate and odor control.
And while it’s not the cheapest option in a mid-sized air cleaner, we think it’s fairly priced, especially considering the state-of-the-art technology you get with the U300 and the savings you can expect from the washable odor media.
In sum, this is an outstanding HEPA filter that comes with an extra level of power and sophistication the typical true HEPA air cleaner lacks.
