The Whirlpool Whispure Tower Air Purifier- HEPA Air Cleaner (model APT40010R) is a smaller, yet highly-sophisticated room air purifier that doesn’t do anything revolutionary or use particularly innovative technologies, but rather combines time-tested odor and fine particulate filtration methods that should make even serious allergy sufferers breath much easier in its presence. Nevertheless, before you decide on this model, you should be aware of what it can and cannot do, as well as how it fares against the competition. For this and more information, please keep reading.
Whispure APT40010R Specifications
The Whispure APT40010R is a fairly simple air cleaner that uses an activated carbon pre-filter that captures odors, such as smoke, fumes, pet/cooking smells and other offensive odors, in addition to a true HEPA particulate filter. This HEPA media is capable of catching 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns in size and larger, allowing it to filter out the usual viruses, fungi, pollen, bacteria and other tiny allergens that can irritate airways and more seriously threaten those with severe allergies and/or asthma.
Like many of the newer high-tech models, the APT40010R features a convenient auto mode that uses a particle sensor that allows the unit to adjust fan speed according to the pollutant levels in the room. This is a nice add-on in our view, since it ensures that unit is not running harder – and consuming more energy – than absolutely necessary. And as far as electricity consumption generally, this unit is very efficient, hence its Energy Star Qualification. Other noteworthy features are its 18-hour timer function, a sleep-mode setting; 3 fan speeds; and dual filter replacement lights.
With an AHAM-certified Clean Air Deliver Rate (“CADR”) of 125, this filter is ideal for smaller rooms, up to about 200 square feet in size. Each purchase is covered by a 5-year limited warranty.
Whirlpool Whispure APT40010R Reviews & Ratings
With a current average user satisfaction rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars on amazon.com based on 34 reviews, it’s safe to say that actual users highly recommend this model. Specifically, people report great satisfaction with this unit’s performance, automatic controls, general button layout, and modest noise level during operation. In addition, most users find that it provides great value as well.
There were only a few somewhat negative comments, which mainly complained of noise (presumably at the higher fan speeds) and the relatively lower airflow of this model compared to the larger Whispure units. However, beyond these remarks, there were no serious design defects mentioned.
Concluding Thoughts & Opinions
For a small room, the Whirlpool Whispure APT40010R is a good choice, which combines basic activated carbon and HEPA filtration that should be sufficient to deal with most home air quality issues. However, keep in mind that this is a smaller unit that is not designed to maintain air quality in a room over 200 square feet in area.
As far as overall performance and value, like the majority of users, we also give the APT40010R high marks. However, in our opinion, there are other options in this unit’s price range that we think offer a bit more power and features, such as the Coway AP-1012GH Smart Air Purifier and Oreck AirInstinct 75, both of which deliver outstanding performance and are similarly-priced to the Whispure, yet can handle rooms up to 250 square feet. For what it’s worth, we also happen to think that both are also more attractive than the Whispure as well. Regardless, all three of these air purifiers are very capable and provide good value.
