Toyotomi TAD-T40LW Review

Toyotomi TAD-T40LWIf you are looking for an outstanding deal on a 14000 BTU dual-hose portable air conditioner that comes with a powerful heat pump, then there is perhaps no better deal right now that the Toyotomi TAD-T40LW 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heat Pump. For more details about this model’s specs, consumer satisfaction ratings and our candid thoughts about its performance and value, please keep reading.

Cooling Power

The Toyotomi TAD-T40LW has 14000 BTUs of cooling power and features a heat pump with 11,000 BTU heating capacity. This is a lot of cooling/heating power. And as far as cooling coverage area, you can expect anywhere from 500-700 square feet depending on how cold you like it and other factors, such as the height of your ceilings, sun exposure of the room you are cooling, and its proximity to other sources of external heat.

Hose Design

This is a dual hose air conditioner system that is very efficient. In fact, Toyotomi reports that by virtue of its being a dual hose system, this model can bring a room down to temperature more than 2X faster than a comparable single-hose unit. As we have explained elsewhere, single hose portable ACs are inherently less efficient that dual hose models because they need to use indoor air for compressor cooling, which also serves to create a slight negative pressure that draws in outdoor air, adding more heat load to the unit to deal with.

Toyotomi TAD-T40LW2Drain System

The TAD-T40LW is equipped with a self-evaporating system that blows off condensate rather than collecting it in a receptacle for manual draining. Of course, with any such auto-evaporating system, high humidity can overwhelm this process and result in significant water build up – so make sure to check it every once in a while to be sure.

Size & Portability

Nothing surprising here. This model is large (19.7×15.7×33.6) and quite heavy at 77 pounds, making it fine to push around but watch that back going up or down the stairs with this thing!

Efficiency

The standard measurement for energy efficiency for air conditioners is by comparing their Energy Efficiency Ratios, or “EERs” as they are typically referred to.  EERs are calculated by dividing BTUs by wattage, which means that the higher the number, the more efficiently the model cools for each watt of electricity used. Most units fall anywhere between 8 and 10, with 10.0 or anything above this being very good.

The TAD-T40LW’s EER is 10.0 – an excellent score that, in conjunction with its dual hose design, means you will spend less to cool your space compared to most other 14K BTU air conditioners on the market.

Toyotomi TAD-T40LW Reviews

With its dual hose system and high efficiency, it’s not surprising that (at the time of this writing) the TAD-T40LW  has so far earned a perfect 5.0 out of 5 stars based on 3 reviews on amazon.com. Here are few excerpts from these actual reviews to give you an idea of just how satisfied these purchasers really are:

Price & Value

At the moment, the TAD-T40LW is selling for $540. We think this is an outstanding price for this particular unit, for at least two reasons: 1) this is a dual hose model, which ordinarily commands a higher price; and 2) it comes with a powerful heat pump, which also raises the price of an AC unit.

In fact, this may be the best deal out there for such features. Indeed, the 14000 BTU NewAir AC-14100H with heat pump we recently reviewed, which we think is still a good buy, is selling for the same price but uses a single hose design.

Toyotomi TAD-T40LW Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Great value for dual hose w/heat pump
  • 5-star reviews
  • Lots of cooling/heating power
  • Highly efficient

Cons:

  • Heavy
  • Plain-looking compared to some

Concluding Thoughts & Opinions

A portable air conditioners with a heat pump is a very smart buy, and offers a year round cooling/heating solution for homes, offices, classrooms or anywhere else they’re needed. The only problem with them, usually, is that they are very expensive, especially for models that use a dual hose venting system.

That’s precisely why we think the Toyotomi TAD-T40LW is a fantastic deal that should not be passed over lightly. This unit cools and heats powerfully and is efficient not only in terms of its 10.0 EER, but its dual hose design as well. Other models that have similar specs typically cost much more than the current price of this unit.

Perhaps the only things that are not impressive about the TAD-T40LW are its large/heavy build (which is typical for a 14K air conditioner) and rather bland appearance – i.e., things that we could definitely get over for the tremendous price/value you get with this portable air conditioner!
