When we think of a solid portable air conditioner, several basic characteristics come to mind: namely, cooling power, energy efficiency, quiet operation and modern features and controls. Well, if these are also important considerations for you too, then you should take a look at the Honeywell MN10CESWW, which is a relative newcomer to the market but is already attracting 5-star reviews, for good reason. Continue reading for much more information about this model and our own thoughts about what it can deliver.
The Honeywell MN10CESWW has a cooling capacity of 10,000 BTUs and can dehumidify as it cools at a rate of 68 pints/day. This BTU output is sufficient to cool most rooms of around 300-350 square feet, with a maximum theoretical cooling area of 450 square feet if using the unit under ideal conditions (e.g., good insulation, low ceilings, no windows, away from heat generating sources, etc.).
Exhaust Hose Design
With its single exhaust hose, the MN10CESWW will be a little less efficient compared to similarly-rated dual-hose portable air conditioners. As we have explained before, compared to dual hose units, single hose systems don’t cool as quickly and result in slight negative room pressure that leads to outdoor air infiltration to varying degrees. Likewise, single hose ACs need to use indoor air to cool off the compressor.
But, as we’ve also stated, single hose units are usually less expensive and can be very effective, with an overall efficiency rivaling many dual hose models if they have a high Energy Efficiency Ratio – which this unit does, as we explain in more detail later.
Condensate Drain System
This model, like most of the current ones on the market today, uses a self-evaporating system that recycles condensate to enhance cooling and evaporates condensate before it accumulates – in most climates. The result, beyond more efficient cooling, is that you don’t need to empty the condensate drainage receptacle.
Please note however that these auto-evaporating systems are made less effective or sometimes defeated by high-humidity levels. Thus, if you are buying this model for your apartment in steamy South Florida, be ready to drain condensate regardless!
Size & Portability
At a height 29.4 inches, depth of 15 inches and width of 18 inches, the MN10CESWW is a pretty average-sized 10000 BTU portable air conditioner in our view. Also typical is its 64 pound net weight. Hey, but if you think this is bulky and heavy, check out some of the specs of most 14000 BTU units!
This is a very important feature of the MN10CESWW. When speaking of efficiency, portable air conditioners are normally compared in terms of their Energy Efficiency Ratio “EER” – a product of their BTUs divided by wattage. This is perhaps the best way to evaluate how much cooling power a unit produces per watt. Given this ratio, the higher the EER the better, as it means you get more BTUs per watt (i.e., per cooling dollar). Typically, most portable ACs have EERs from 8 to 10, with anything over 10.0 being very efficient.
In this case, the MN10CESWW scores a whopping EER of 11.1. This is a truly excellent EER and one we rarely see. Importantly, it also makes up for much of the inherent loss of efficiency resulting from its single-hose design.
With a max operating noise level of just 50 decibels, this is going to be a very quiet air conditioner, suitable for bedrooms, workspaces and anywhere else silence is golden. Indeed, the Honeywell line produces some of the quietest air conditioners we’ve seen.
As usual, however, we have to warn you that everyone perceives air conditioner noise differently, and you must keep in mind that that there is no truly silent unit available anywhere!

Honeywell MN10CESWW Reviews
Being a relatively new product, at the moment of this writing there is only one review of this product on amazon.com, but its 5-star. The following excerpt from this review sums up the tone of this lone commenter:
- “The Honeywell runs quieter than the LG unit….All-in-all, I’m satisfied that this is a first rate, well made unit that will serve me for years to come.”
We agree with this characterization, and feel that the MN10CESWW will continue to earn high ratings for running quietly and reliably as time goes on.
Price & Value
At the moment, this model is selling for $399. You might be able to find cheaper options out there, but we think this is a very good price of a 10,000 BTU model with this level of quality and efficiency.
At this price the MN10CESWW also happens to be going for about $50 less than the unit’s list price of $449, so jump on this deal while you can!
Pros & Cons
- Very quiet operation
- Outstanding EER of 11.2
- Advanced electrostatic air filter
- Great digital controls and features
- Sleek, attractive design
- 5-star reviews (so far)
- loses some efficiency due to single hose exhaust system
Concluding Thoughts & Opinions
If you are in the market for a 10000 watt portable air conditioner, we think the Honeywell MN10CESWW is an excellent 5-star choice, for several reasons: it can cool off most small to mid-sized rooms; it’s very quiet for a portable air conditioner; boasts unusual energy efficiency; and it features modern controls, features and looks great to boot, which is more than we can say for a lot of others we’ve seen lately.
Also, at its current sales price of $399, it’s fairly priced compared to many other models in its spec-class. But we suspect this deal probably won’t last long!
