Honeywell has been busy preparing for this summer and has unleashed a very impressive new portable air conditioner lineup. Among these new models is the Honeywell MM14CCS, a 14,000 BTU unit with modern features and already a nearly 5-star reputation among happy purchasers. However, the question always arises – how much does this model deliver and how does it compare to the field? Please continue reading our in-depth review to find out.
The Honeywell MM14CCS Portable Air Conditioner packs a total of 14,000 BTUs of cooling power – enough to cover a room up to 700 square feet in size. As we usually say, however, this figure represents the maximum area under theoretically optimal conditions. If your room is very hot – for example a southern exposure, big windows, poor insulation, etc., then you should figure on coverage area more in the neighborhood of 500-600, or less, depending on how many of these factors are present.
This is a single hose design. Although single hose systems are effective, they are inherently somewhat less efficient than dual hose models because they need to use indoor air to cool the compressor. Of course, single hose systems are typically much more affordable than dual hose types, all other things being equal.
Like most modern portable air conditioners, this one uses an auto-drain system, which essentially blows off condensate faster than it can accumulate, so you normally never need to drain anything. Nevertheless, there are cases where some condensate may build up and need to be removed, especially if you live in a very high-humidity area. In any event, auto-drain or not, we always suggest checking the drain pan to be sure.
Size & Portability
At 15.7 x 16.5 x 29.3 inches in size, the MM14CCS is actually quite compact for a 14,000 BTU air conditioner. However, this doesn’t mean that it’s lightweight. Like most portable ACs with this much power, expect a very heavy unit that you will be rolling around when moving it from room to room is necessary.
Honeywell reports that the MM14CCS produces just 55 decibels of sound during operation. This is good, especially for a 14,000 BTU model. To give you some perspective, 55 dB is significantly quieter than ordinary human conversation.
The standard measurement for efficiency for air conditioners is their Energy Efficiency Ratio (“EER”) which is obtained easily by dividing the unit’s BTU rating by its maximum wattage consumption. The higher the EER the more efficient the air conditioner, with anything at or above an EER of 10.0 being very good.
In this case, the MM14CCS scores a 10.0 – a solid EER that means it cools particularly effectively compared to the average 14,000 BTU air conditioner. This high EER also mitigates to some extent the fact that this model loses some efficiency with its single hose design.
A fairly straightforward window kit is included to vent the single hose on this system. Like most portable AC vent kits, you may have to play with it a little depending on the size and shape of your window.

Honeywell MM14CCS Reviews
The MM14CCS is relatively new, but consumer ratings thus far have been excellent, and the unit currently averages a 4.4 out of 5 stars on amazon.com. Let’s take a look at what people are saying:
- This seems to work well to cool a 650 square foot room…. The noise level is okay for me–what you’d expect with any air conditioner.
- it was super easy to install, cools well
- it’s a bit heavy.
- I’m really surprised at just how quiet this unit is.
- works well for the recommended room size (700sqft)
In general, users were very pleased with the MM14CCS, and indicated that it was powerful, relatively quiet and easy to install. The most consistent negative comment was that this unit was heavy. Other than that, this item received mostly praise. In fact, the one truly negative commenter appears to have received a defective unit.
Price & Value
Currently selling for about $523 at the time of this writing, the MM14CCS is reasonably-priced, but just a tad expensive for a single hose model in our opinion, particularly compared to some of the comparable Whynter dual hose models. We suggest you compare and contrast the value you get with the MM14CCS with 24 other portable air conditioners by using our Comparison Buying Guide that lets you sort price, power and other features.
Pros & Cons
- great cooling power;
- good EER of 10.0
- newer model
- runs quietly
- powerful dehumidifier
- effective auto-evaporation
- great user reviews
- good warranty
- single hose design
- slightly expensive for a single-hose model
Concluding Thoughts & Opinions
The Honeywell MM14CCS is a very powerful and effective portable air conditioner that does what it’s supposed to – it cools a large room very well. Moreover, it does so relatively efficiently thanks to its 10.0 EER. In addition, it comes with the usual panoply of modern features that we look for, including an air filter, full function remote, digital controls, condensate auto-evaporation and a powerful dehumidifier. And finally, it runs fairly quietly, especially when set on the lowest fan speed.
Perhaps the main drawback of this model is that it’s a somewhat pricey for a single hose model – of course, you likely will not feel any difference, but from a value and efficiency standpoint, this is worth noting, since the MM14CCS has lots of competition and costs as much or more than some good dual hose 14000 BTU units – even some that have a heat pump function as well. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to try our Portable Air Conditioner Comparison Guide and sort by BTU rating, and you will see what we mean.
Other than price, however, we think the Honeywell MM14CCS is a powerful 5-star cooling option that would serve anyone with a larger room up to 700 square feet very well.
