The Friedrich D50BP comes with all of the modern features we expect in a good 50-pint dehumidifier. It’s Energy Star qualified; has a contemporary real time display of room temperature and humidity; it’s easy to drain with it’s removable condensate drainage bucket; has a 24-hour timer; 2 fan speeds; and has wide operating temperature range of 41 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
It also comes with automatic defrost; a washable air filter that slides out easily for quick maintenance; rolling casters; and can be set to a desired humidity point between 30-90%.
Finally, this unit comes with Friedrich’s very popular continuous drain system with a powerful built in drain pump, which can send water up to 15 feet vertically and/or horizontally to a drain of your choice.
Friedrich D50BP Reviews
So far, the D50BP has earned one 5-star review on amazon.com. This is an actual excerpt of this review that sums it up pretty well:
- “The unit is quiet for a dehumidifier….Love the pump feature and its ability to pump several feet vertically.”
And while this is only one reviewer, we have every reason to believe that this 5-star trend will continue. Indeed, the slightly bigger brother of the D50BP – the Friedrich D70BP – which is in virtually all respects (except capacity) identical, has 64 total reviews on amazon and is currently averaging 4.2 out of 5 stars, which is a fantastic score for any dehumidifier.
Price & Value
The Friedrich D50BP retails for $339 – but don’t let that scare you, since it typically sells for a considerable discount off of its MSRP. But even with discounting, it usually is a fair bit pricier than your average 50-pint dehumidifier. However, when you consider this model’s above average feature set and powerful and easy to use built in drain pump, it’s worth paying something extra in our view.
As always, we suggest you use our Dehumidifier Comparison Buying Guide to get a feel of the specs and current pricing of the best selling models.
Concluding Thoughts & Opinions
We really like the Friedrich D50BP, for the same reasons we like its larger D70BP version – it’s very well made, has a powerful built in drain pump, and has modern features and great electronic controls. Make no mistake, this is not the most inexpensive 50-pint dehumidifier available by any means, but it does offer a higher level of design quality and reliability than most other popular brands in it’s class, which is important when you consider how short-lived many of the cheaper models can be.
